Storing Colloidal Silver

Should I refrigerate my colloidal silver?

No

You should never refrigerate colloidal silver. The tiny submicroscopic silver particles are suspended in the water by an electrical charge. They are in a constant state of motion called Brownian Motion. Storing in the fridge slows down the Brownian Motion, and can cause the silver particles to lose their suspension in the water, falling to the bottom of the storage container.  This is called “plating out of suspension.” Storing your colloidal silver at room temperature is always best. Avoid excessive heat and excessive cold whenever possible

Other colloidal silver storage tips.

Do not store your colloidal silver close to electrical or magnetic influences such as the microwave oven, television, radio, stereo speakers (which have large magnets in them) etc. Over time, strong electro-magnetic fields can seriously weaken or even altogether neutralize the electrical charge on the silver particles, causing them to drop out of suspension and thereby render your colloidal silver solution less potent.

This is also what happens if the silver is stored in clear containers, or in direct sunlight.

How long can you store colloidal silver before it loses its potency?

It depends upon the quality of the colloidal silver you’ve made, and the storage conditions. High-quality colloidal silver produced solely with pure steam-distilled water and stored in a dark cabinet at room temperature will store far longer and retain full potency far longer than colloidal silver produced with poor quality water and stored in poor conditions.

How long should AG Colloidal Silver last?

Generally speaking, our Colloidal Silver will easily store for a year or longer in a dark kitchen cabinet at room temperature, and retain 99% of its potency during that time.

However, poor quality colloidal silver, or colloidal silver stored under improper conditions can begin to lose potency after only a few weeks to a few months. In such cases, you’ll actually see silver particles that have fallen out of suspension and have dropped to the bottom of your storage bottle leaving a light silvery-grey coating.
